Living in a tiny home while remodeling our actual house

When I got married for the second time my new husband and I decided to build a house for the two of us.

We knew moving into the other’s home would be a disaster.

It would be better for us emotionally to start with a fresh slate. We found the area we liked and the land. The problem was the house. It was in shambles and needed a lot of repairs. A new roof, wrap around porch, flooring and drywall all had to be added. The two of us didn’t want to start our life in a messy construction zone. I looked at trailers, RVs and other temporary home solutions. Nothing was really appealing until I found a portable home solution company. They make tiny homes out of shipping containers. It is surprisingly well done and cost effective. My husband and I were able to design a temporary home solution to get the job done. We had a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living area. It wasn’t spacious or even overly pretty, but it was enough for a few months. It was great that the tiny home was able to be shipped directly to the property. My husband was able to oversee all the buildings since he lived on site. I could still reap the benefits of my new property without being in a construction zone. When materials were held up due to COVID, it wasn’t a big deal to us. We just kept our portable home a little longer. It really was a cute set up we had for awhile.
