Getting a renter and a new HVAC method

I think most of us would get as creative as they had to get in order to save their home.

This has been the case for us this past year.

While we have only been homeowners for a few years, we sure didn’t want to have to sell. But the pandemic sent me home to work in the air conditioning. And I was the lucky one. My wife lost her job completely as her company closed up shop permanently. That was a huge loss for us financially. My wife was able to do some online gigs during the pandemic at home with me in the HVAC. But those jobs did not replace her salary. We scrimped on everything we could. Last summer was the hottest ever in our house as we kept the thermostat setting high to saving on cooling costs. But by the end of summer, it became apparent that we needed to figure something out or put the house on the market. We decided to take a part of our house and turn it into a studio apartment. All we had to do to make this happen was board up one wall and then put in a small kitchen set. Plus we had to find independent heating and cooling equipment for the new apartment as well. Having heating and cooling controlled by your landlord is exactly appealing to someone looking for a place to live. So we called the HVAC company and the HVAC professionals had a ready answer for us. They suggested that we install ductless mini split heating and cooling equipment. Actually, it just took the one ductless mini split. And that saved us. Plus, we have a cool renter to boot!
