Too Much Kid HVAC Time During the Summer

I live on a few miles from where I grew up.

It’s an awesome place so, I decided to stay. When summer finally got here and school was let out, there wasn’t much that could get me back inside. Basically, if it weren’t for food and darkness, I would never have even come inside the house. Now, I do have to confess that it does get very hot where we live. As I recall though, it was hot back then too. That’s why I get so frustrated with my children just sitting inside on their butts all day. They are forever whining about wanting to stay inside in the HVAC cooled air. I get that during the peak heating hours, standing or working in the sun is not great. But dang, maybe go for a bike ride in the morning? It just feels as though they need to be a bit more active and get outside for some fresh air. Instead, all they seem to want to do is play video games for hours on end. They won’t even get outside to swim in our own pool. That just breaks my mind. If I had a pool when I was growing up, I don’t think I would have gotten out. This perspective is completely lost on my children. If it doesn’t include hours and hours inside the air conditioned air, those young people don’t want much to do with it. I get that things change generationally but, some physical exercise never hurt anybody. I still get outside to do something every day. Even if it’s just a brief walk, I go outside.
