Every time I would go to my uncle’s house, I would see this old dial thermostat on his wall.
- I ended up asking him if he was ever going to upgrade to a newer thermostat.
He said there was nothing wrong with the thermostat and asked me why he would ever get something newer if it worked just fine. He’s in that mindset, ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ It’s something that always bothered me when I go to his house because I knew that he could save money on his energy bills with a smart thermostat. Also, it’s convenient when your thermostat sets up a schedule automatically. Even a programmable thermostat would be so much better than that old dial thermostat, but my uncle didn’t know anything about that. So one day, I decided to buy him a new smart thermostat and I brought it to him. I had it wrapped up in some wrapping paper like it was some special occasion. The special occasion was just him getting with the times. He opened up the present and then thanked me and said he didn’t really need a new thermostat. That’s when I started pointing out all the features. I said he could control the thermostat remotely from anywhere, it would automatically create a schedule based on his temperature control preferences, and it would save him up to 10% on his energy bills. It wasn’t until he heard the part about saving money on the energy bills that his interest peaked. He said I should have told him that in the first place! So I helped him install the smart thermostat, and he has been lovin it ever since.
